you will need to keep your ears clean so the wax doesn't come to the outside of the canal and be visible to passersby.
the best way to keep them clean is in the shower.  soap your hands and then using your palms swipe over your ears so the soap gets in there.   using one finger on each hand kind of squiggle your fingers around in there a bit.  they won't go in to far so don't worry.  then rinse by sticking your ear under the water.  they should feel squeaky clean.

Don't use Q-tips in the ear canal.  it will hurt later on and you could do damage to your ear drums.

if your ears already are hurting a bit and you think you have some bacteria in there from swimming too much for example.......then you can use this recipe that i found in one of the magazines i read.  it was years ago so i don't know if it was Cosmo or not.  this recipe is normally for swimmers ear but i use it anytime i have an earache.

1 teaspoon of vinegar
1 teaspoon of rubbing alcohol

mix in a small glass.  put a towel around your neck and tip your head to one side.  pour in your ear and wait a few seconds and then tip your head the other way so the mixture runs into the sink or on the towel.  repeat with other ear if necessary.  now, if you get dizzy just sit down.  don't be afraid.  this won't hurt you or make you go deaf or anything.  i do this all the time.  and if you don't belive me then go see an ear nose and throat doctor or better yet a swimming coach!
